Dr Orloff says we are a society of comparison junkies, which can be extremely detrimental to our health.

Do you find you are constantly comparing yourself to your closest friend? Or you are jealous of the constant praise a co worker receives?

Here are a few pointers to help you stop comparing and building your own self esteem:

1)    Choose A Person You Feel Jealous Or Envy Towards: co-worker or a relative, make this person your test case before you go onto transforming these emotions with others.

2)    Behave Differently: try avoiding comparisons and shift your comparisons to concentrate on what you do have, what makes you happy. Let that tone be your interaction between others.

3)    Give To Others What You Most Desire For Yourself: If you want your work to be valued, value others’ work. If you want a successful career, help others career to flourish.

4)    Learn From A Rival’s Positive Points: Get your mind off what you perceive you lack and towards self-improvement.

5)    Wish A Rival Well: Even if it’s hard to do this, it helps you turn negativity around to something more positive.
